Hoag Health Center – Huntington Beach Becomes City's First LEED Silver Certified Health Care Building
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – (October 13, 2014) – Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is proud to announce that the Hoag Health Center – Huntington Beach is the first health care building in the city to receive LEED silver certification, a designation that identifies the health center as a leading example of sustainable design.
LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a construction rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, which awarded the Center a silver certification under the Building Design and Construction Rating System in the Core & Shell category.
“LEED certification identifies Hoag Health Center – Huntington Beach as a showcase example of sustainable design and demonstrates leadership in transforming the building industry,” S. Richard Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chairman of U.S. Green Building Council said in a written statement.

Based on such rigorous criteria as sustainability, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resource, indoor environmental quality and innovation in design, LEED certification puts Hoag Health Center – Huntington Beach among the most efficient, high-performing buildings in the world. It also joins a growing list of Hoag’s LEED certified buildings including Hoag Hospital Irvine, the Judy & Richard Voltmer Sleep Center at Hoag and the Joan & Andy Fimiano Emergency Pavilion at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach.

In addition to its sustainable design, the newly expanded Hoag Health Center – Huntington Beach is double the size of the previous building, encompassing a 100,000-square-foot facility that better serves the beach city’s residents with a growing number of physicians, improved diagnostics, breast imaging and a range of other services and specialties.
The new design includes:
Bicycle storage and fuel-efficient vehicle parking areas (To encourage alternative modes of transportation, staff showers and changing rooms are provided)
Energy-saving LED lighting
Rain water-irrigated landscaping
A heat reflective roof to reduce energy costs and ample shaded areas
