Jonathan D. Dau

About Dr Jonathan D. Dau

Bio

Approachable and curious are two words that describe Dr. Dau and makes him well-suited for a career in rheumatology. He views himself as the coach as he brings together the patient, their family and specialists to look at the whole picture with the goal of guiding patients toward wellness. Driven by a passion for problem-solving, Dr. Dau chose rheumatology to untangle medical complexities and devise tailored treatment plans for his patients. Known for his meticulous approach and relentless pursuit of answers, he spares no effort in addressing his patients’ ailments. His goal with each interaction is to make his patients feel comfortable and listen to their concerns and questions to provide them with the personalized attention they deserve. Some of the common conditions Dr. Dau treats include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus and other rare auto-immune conditions. Each visit with Dr. Dau may include the use of a bedside ultrasound machine. He compares the ultrasound to a ‘modern stethoscope’ because it allows him to see with greater clarity the inner complexities of the joints. This, in turn, helps him untangle diagnoses earlier than when conventional labs and diagnostic imaging modalities are used. Dr. Dau believes that the use of ultrasound is the cutting-edge advancement and first step toward achieving precision medicine in rheumatology. He is delighted to incorporate this technology to personalize the care he provides for his patients. In his practice, Dr. Dau finds fulfillment in connecting with patients, learning their stories, and fostering relationships. He prioritizes continuity of care, aiming to be a lifelong partner in his patients' well-being. As he states, “I view each meeting as a meeting for life, and I want my patients to know I am here for them through every step of their health care journey.” Dr. Dau was drawn to Hoag's culture of innovation and forward-thinking approach. He received his medical degree and completed his residency at McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas in Houston, Texas and participated in a rheumatology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School.
