Hoag Hospital Adult Auxiliary is looking for friendly, cheerful and caring volunteers to assist patients and visitors at their Newport Beach, Irvine and Huntington Beach campuses. As a community service, interview and skills assessments, orientation training, health screening, and background check are required. Hoag Hospital Auxiliary, a non-profit charity based organization, provides caring service and fund raising in support of Hoag. The Auxiliary has raised approximately $7 million since 1952 for hospital equipment and projects.Auxiliary members, both men and women alike, volunteer thousands of hours each month, providing important and needed hospital services for our patients, families and friends, visitors, and staff.

The Auxiliary of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian accepts volunteers on the basis of merit, qualifications and competence. Acceptance as a volunteer is not influenced by race, color, national origin, religion or sex. Placement is based on the needs of the hospital. Every effort will be made to accommodate your schedule and areas of interest, but we cannot guarantee a position.
A health screening by Employee Health Services is required annually. An annual TB test/health screening questionnaire is a requirement by our regulatory agency.The flu vaccine is given by the hospital every flu season. If one does not wish to have the vaccine, a mask must be worn during flu season.
New member orientation is scheduled each month. Before starting at the hospital, you will be asked to provide identification information, pass the interview and hospital mandatories, orientation, and have a health screening/TB test. There is a provisional period and one must pass the probationary evaluation before becoming an official member of the Auxiliary.Topics discussed at New Member Orientation include:
Standards and policies of the Auxiliary and hospital
Health Screening/TB screening test (given by the hospital)
Dues, uniforms and committee placement
Required Hospital Information (e.g., safety, infection control, standards & policies)
The Health Scholar Volunteer Program (previously known as Clinical Care Extender Program) is a partnering with COPE, local universities and colleges, Hoag’s Patient Care and Volunteer Services. Health Scholars include:
500 caring volunteers
College or university students or graduates interested in the healthcare field
Volunteers that assist staff with basic patient comfort care on nursing units

When you donate your valuable time, skills, and energy by volunteering, you’re making an impact that positively affects the lives of patients and their families when they are truly in need.
Even the simplest of gestures — reading to or talking with someone — has a meaningful impact. There are many ways for you to contribute your time and talents. Our volunteers provide immeasurable support in such ways as:
Visiting with patients
Giving family caregivers much-needed relief
Supporting the hospice by helping in the office
Whether you’re interacting with patients or helping in the office or special event, all you really need is compassion and a desire to serve others. Our volunteers:
Are sensitive to the needs of others
Have an open and compassionate heart
Are excellent with interpersonal communication and listening skills
Are not judgmental of the beliefs and lifestyles of others
Have sufficiently resolved any long-term or recent losses
We request a commitment of one to two hours per week, while working with and accommodating your schedule. Other volunteer requirements include:
Meeting the requirements for the hospice volunteer program starting with a phone interview to review requirements and assess interest.
If accepted, successfully passing of requirements, such as Live Scan background check, health screening, volunteer orientation session, hospice volunteer training, and probationary review.

Hoag’s Jr. Auxiliary/Candystriper volunteer program is full. Please check back January 2027, for an update of when we will be taking interest again (which will depend on available openings).
Hoag’s Jr. Auxiliary/Candystriper volunteer program consists of local students ages 15-18 who volunteer their time to assist patients, visitors, staff and the hospital.
As we are restarting and rebuilding our valued high school volunteer program after the pandemic, there are only a limited amount of service areas and openings at this time.
